No crafts this week

I have not been at all creative this week, instead have been studying for my Oracle Professional certification test.  I also finished the book Await Your Reply.  Since I did not like this novel, I am not even going to give it a link.  It was a National Book Award finalist this year and that is what caused me to pick it up to read.  Now I am onto World Without End  I have heard good things about this Ken Follett novel, but since it is over 1000 pages, it will most likely take me all year to finish.  I am adding more books to my list.

I am hoping to see my grandson in a couple of weeks.  He is now over 5 months old or as my son the math professor would say 5/12 old.

I Love it

I skyped with my grandson E today.  I haven't seen him since Christmas and he has grown and become much more alert.  He was very curious about my voice and picture on the computer screen.  The below pictures cause me to smile and laugh.  E is laid out with all the things I've made him...  I think the rabbit was the first thing I made for my then unknown grandbaby. Then the quilt, booties (which ended up being large and uneven) and curtains (not pictured), pillows to go with curtains. lots of KU Jayhawk apparel, and then the Pi, E and puppy love clothing.  The is also a little girafe rattle, fabric block and hat.

The below really makes me smile.  Love that boy.

He has many more things to receive.  It is most wonderful to be a grandmother...

Adding Books

I have read many books since my son went off to college in 1998.  Many are from Oprah's original bookclub.  My favorite books are the ones that never leave my memory.  Like Jane Hamilton's A Map of the World.  Ann Pachett's Belcanto is one of my all time favorite although it took me forever to get into the story.  I like to read a book before seeing the movie, sometimes I am pleased for instance with Atonement and sometime disappointed like with White Oleander.  I enjoy all of Jodi Picoult, Anita Shreve and yes John Grisham's novels.  I read fun novels like the Twilight and Sookie Stackhouse series.

My list will definitely grow and I may have to place them all on a separate link.  Please join me in discussions or suggestions of future books.

The Pi symbol

My son is a Math Professor and loves the below creation. He (my son) has used the Pi symbol since being an under graduate. He was surprised I had found a perfect Pi symbol. This was all scrap fabric, well except I did buy the ribbing. I used left over black fleece to experiment with a pattern out of Octobre Sewing Magazine. This was fun and I knew once my son received it in the mail, I would receive a phone call, one of every mothers warmest moments. I love creating for his family.  My son has already suggested additional items to create

Recent creation for grandson

You know I am thrilled to have a grandson but always thought a granddaughter would be more fun for sewing and knitting creations. But my daughter-in-law gave me some suggestions and I have had so much fun. I've been using plain white onesies. I just enlarged a little e in a word document to use as this applique.

This was my first attempt at iron on applique. I zigzag with my machine and it wasn't bad but next time I decided to hand stitch the border around the below puppy and neckline and sleeves.

This puppy dog applique comes off the Anna Maria Horner blog
